Brazil defeats Canada 2-0

Maria Antonelli, Brazil – “It’s a fight every point; I’m not thinking about the podium.  Our energy is very high and I’m very proud of our team together.  If we continue fighting like this, anything can happen.  I need to think about the podium if I go to the semifinal.”

Carolina Salgado, Brazil – (On finishes leading into the World Championships) “For us it’s a very hard situation for the Brazilians with the country quotas – it’s a finals level.  We have to keep our minds good and strong, because if you get sad when you lose in the country quota you will go crazy.  It’s very tough for the Brazilians, but that’s the rule.  We know that we can win a tournament or if we play bad we could finish last.  We have to keep focused on every game, and because we are a new team every game is so important to us to grow.  We want to think game by game and point by point.  Our goal is to win the tournament but also to play with good energy and have fun.”

Taylor Pischke, Canada – “We definitely had a run of good plays on our side (led 8-3 in the second set).  We just need to string more of them together and not let them back in the game.  They are obviously an amazing team, they won a tournament.  We can’t give them an inch because they will take more.  We just need to learn to string together the big points.”

Jamie Lynn Broder, Canada – “For our second match as a team I feel like compared to yesterday we improved on a lot of areas that we wanted to.  It’s just the aspects of the game that are missing a bit of the flow that the more experienced partnerships have.  The longer we go in this tournament that’s going to come.  So I feel confident about our play that we had today and I think there’s a lot of positives to take away from that game.  There are a lot of areas that are easy to control and tighten up, which will make a really big difference in the outcome.”
