Brazilians top Trinidad & Tobago 2-0

Alvaro Filho, Brazil – “We worked a lot to be (the No. 1 seed) and we are happy to play here in the World Championships. We want to just play our best here, play with love. This is the sport we love. We want to play one match at a time, one day at a time, step by step always. (On disappointing finish in Poland) Yeah, this is sports life. Some win, some lose and that’s why it’s so special when you win. You have to feel that moment when you win and the good thing of losing, you have the next day and the losing is past. The best thing about winning is the same. The winner of the match is not the winner of the next match. Sports teaches you this. It’s the first match of the tournament and I think we played happy, with passion and aggressiveness. That’s the way we want to play here.”

Daneill Williams, Trinidad and Tobago – “Win or lose, we’re going to enjoy this. I guess the moment got to us a little bit so hopefully we’re going to settle down and reach the level we can play. I love the people here, I love the support for volleyball here. We don’t have this kind of support back home so it’s nice to see that. I wouldn’t say we had any real moments. I think we settled down and Marlon was scoring the ball so that was nice. We’re looking forward to improve on it next time.”

Marlon Phillip, Trinidad and Tobago – “This is my first time on this level. I’m 19 years old coming from Trinidad and Tobago so that’s good. It was a good experience and we want to improve in the tournament. (Nervous?) No, I was excited actually playing against a big team.”
