Canada defeats The Netherlands 2-0

Sarah Pavan, Canada - "Our sideout was pretty consistent in the first set. We took care of our side really well and when we got transition chances we were scoring them. In the second our sideout wasn’t as crisp and we were making more errors so we let them kind of sneak in a little bit. We squeaked it out and we wanted this one to kind of get our rhythm going.  (at 21-21) We’ve been in this situation a lot this season and one thing that I’ve been really about with our team is we are able to maintain our composure when it’s close like that. Having been through it and come out the other side with a win so many times in that situation we were feeling OK."

Marleen van Iersel, The Netherlands - "The biggest difference is we got our own error rate down. We made more pressure with the serve and we took better care of our own sideout, that’s what got us into the second set."

Manon Flier-Nummerdor, The Netherlands - "(Nerves in first WC?) Oh yes, always, I think that’s the excitement of the tournament. But that’s nice, that’s healthy and it helps you. We knew it was a tough opponent and if we played good, we’d still have a chance. That’s what we saw in the second set. It would have been great to have a tiebreak to compete so that’s kind of a disappointment we didn’t make that."
