Dutch spoil "Duda's" 19th birthday celebration

Madelein Meppelink, Netherlands – “The first game against Canada in this tournament we didn’t play our best game, so that made us sharper as we knew what we had to do.  I think it all came out in this game.  We Dutchies like a bit of wind so maybe that luck was on our side.  We played a really good game.  Now we have to play point by point, and give everything each point.  We did that really well in this game.”

Sophie van Gestel, Netherlands – “I am very happy that we won, and happy how we played.  There was some wind but we played well with the wind.  At first we had a little stress with this being the World Championships but now we have more confidence.  We won the first set 21-19 but it was a good team so we knew they would come back.  They are one of the top teams, they win medals.”

Agatha Bednarczuk, Brazil – “We started the first set very well.  But in the end of the set we didn’t have good sideouts and they had good serves and changed the game.  In the second set they were better in the service than us so this was the big difference.  They played very well.  When you have a good serve the wind can really help as well.”
