Iconic venue launches countdown to 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships

 
Vienna, Austria, March 30, 2017 - The iconic Spanish Riding School in Vienna provided a sensational backdrop for a press conference held to launch the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships as the Austrian capital prepares to welcome the top beach volleyball teams in the world from July 28 to August 6.

Attending the press conference were FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F°, Beach Majors Company CEO Hannes Jagerhofer, Austrian Volleyball Federation Peter Kleinmann,
A1 Telekom Austria AG CEO Dr. Margarete Schramböck, Vienna Executive City Councilor of Finance, Economic and International Affairs Mag. Renate Brauner, and Executive City Councilor for Cultural Affairs, Science and Sports Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny.

Members of the organising committee outlined Vienna's vision to make the tournament the biggest and best in beach volleyball history. Fans can expect a stunning spectacle on the city's famous Danube Island when the world’s best players battle for the title of world champion and compete for prize money of USD 1 million, just a year after the highly successful beach volleyball tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

FIVB President, Dr. Graça, said: “The FIVB and the entire volleyball family is looking forward to experiencing the warm welcome and fantastic hosting credentials that Austria has already showed us when the country staged the 2001 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Klagenfurt. The 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships is the next key milestone for beach volleyball and a great opportunity to invite the fans to an amazing event.”

Beach Majors CEO Hannes Jagerhofer,
who fulfilled a big dream of his, together with his team to host the World Championships in Vienna, said: “The anticipation is great. To bring the World Champs to Austria has been a long-time dream of ours and we are looking forward to making this a reality. I am convinced that Vienna will set new standards in every way.”



Austrian Rio 2016 Olympians Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst also participated in a special photoshoot at the Spanish Riding School with Vienna’s famous Lipizzaner horses with renowned photographer Dustin Snipes, a winner of the prestigious "American Photo Images of the Year" award.
