It was the first FIVB World Tour meeting between the two teams.
In Pool J, Italy finished in 3rd place with a 1-2 record and Uruguay finished 4th at 0-3. Also in Pool J, Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen of the Netherlands won the pool with a 3-0 record and Poland's Michal Bryl/Grzegorz Fijalek finished in 2nd place at 2-1.
Italy will have to wait to see if it advances directly into the knockout phase or plays in a "lucky" loser later today to advance. Uruguay has been eliminated and finished 37th.
