Aleksandrs Samoilovs, Latvia – “We had good crowd support. At the beginning of the season they (Germany) were playing really good but last week they played just great. We get seeded third here and get in the same pool with the team that won a four-star event the week before.”
Janis Smedins, Latvia – “The goal is to play each match like the last one, we are only focused on the next match. We are not looking at any other matches, we are just preparing for this one, that is all. We played a little bit better with the service today, and they didn’t move their legs as good. It wasn’t a bunch of aces, but serves in different directions, and they had a few problems while Alex had some good blocks and had one or two balls on defense. We put the pressure on them. We had led by four or five points but then they came back.”
Markus Bockermann, Germany – “We won the last game against those guys, so it was their turn to win. We really wanted to win, especially after last week. It’s really hard after big success to find them in the next tournament. They can play really well; they’ve been number one in the world in the last couple years so we can’t expect to win every time. If we win the next match we will have to play lucky loser because we have a bad point ratio right now. We just want to win and focus on the game, not worry about every point. We just want to keep on winning.”
