USA defeats Guatemala 2-0

Ryan Doherty, USA – “We come out of our pool now guaranteed so we’re happy with how we’ve played so far and hopefully we can keep this going in the elimination rounds. It was a very different year than I was picturing it because I was planning on playing with Johnny Mayer. Tri going down with that weird illness threw a little wrench in the works with most of the American teams. I was able to glide into Hyden and play pretty well. We’re happy with where we’re at but want to see if we can continue to do well for our last three tournaments here. (On the heat) The best advice we have is to think of it in Celsius because us Americans don’t know that 40 degrees Celsius is all that hot.”

John Hyden, USA – “Any time you get two wins in pool play it’s good. I wish we could have gotten that third but it doesn’t matter now. It’s luck of the draw and who you match up against. Sometimes you match up well, sometimes you’re going to have a really tough first game. We’ll have to wait and see the draw and see from there. (On the new partnership with Doherty) We definitely need more practice time. We’ve been learning as we go. Ryan’s been soaking up a lot that I’ve been giving him and it’s been working.”
