Currently the most “experienced” tandem in the FIVB World Tour, Gavira and Herrera qualified for their fifth-straight FIVB World Championships via the international ranking process. Prior to placing 17th at the 2015 worlds in The Netherlands, the Spaniards posted fifths in 2009, 2011 and 2013. A four-time Olympian and silver medal winner with Javier Bosma at the Athens 2004 Summer Games, Herrera has appeared regularly in the World Championships since 2003. Since forming their partnership in 2009, Gavira and Herrera have captured two FIVB World Tour gold medals with 15 podium placements. A 2002 FIVB under-21 world champion with Raul Mesa, Herrera played in his first world tour event in 2001. Gavira, who collected two FIVB youth world championship silver medals, played in his first world tour event in 2007.
