Americans defeat Canadians 2-0

Sara Hughes, United States – “We experienced a lot in Poland but our mindset here is to come out and play every match to the best of our ability and end up on the podium.  I can’t believe we are actually here; we’re so excited.”

Kelly Claes, United States – “It was disappointing getting a 17th last week (in Poland) but this is our first year and we are out here learning and trying to tweak things.  So it’s a great learning experience for us.  We just have to play every game our hardest.  We have nothing to lose so we are going to work our butts off.  When the season started we didn’t think we’d get into this so having some good finishes and being able to come here is an amazing opportunity and experience in itself.  It’s unreal and exciting to be here, but we want to do the best we can and we believe we can make it to the podium.”

Taylor Pischke, Canada – “It is difficult having your first match together be in the World Championships.  But we definitely saw some good things and we can take that into the next round.  We have to learn and grow together as a team.  We just need to work on the team chemistry; we have only practiced together three days.”

Jamie Lynn Broder, Canada – (on this tournament format) “I think it’s going to be a really good opportunity for us to analyze that match, especially because it was our first one as a team.  We can look at things we want to change and execute better.  For us this format definitely helps and is a positive thing.”
