Asian quartet heading to World Champs

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 7, 2017 – Qatar, Iran, Indonesia and Australia have all qualified men’s teams for the Vienna 2017, FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships after the completion of the completion of the AVC Qatar Masters over the weekend.

Qatar’s Rio 2016 Olympic duo Jefferson Santos Pereira and Cherif Younousse beat Australian duo Chris McHugh and Damien Schumann 2-1 (21-12, 27-29, 15-13) to top the podium.

Should they be picked to represent Qatar they will have the chance to better their impressive performance at the Netherlands 2015, World Championships where they reached the quarterfinals.

With Indonesia’s Ade Candra Rachmawan and Mohammad Asfiya winning bronze it means that all three national federations will be represented at Vienna 201 that runs from July 28-August 6.

The four teams chosen to represent Australia, Indonesia, Iran and Qatar will be among the 48 leading men’s teams at the World Championships.

Each continental tour – in Asia, Africa, Europe, North, Central America and the Caribbean, and South America – each qualify four teams per gender for a total of 20 teams. A further 23 teams qualify from the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, the host nation qualifies two teams per gender and there are three wildcard places up for grabs.
