Beach Volleyball World Championships qualification criteria confirmed

 
Lausanne, Switzerland, November 17, 2016 - The International Volleyball Federation has approved the continental qualification process for the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships which will take place in Austria, Vienna from July 28 to August 6.

Next year’s Beach Volleyball World Championships will welcome 48 teams per gender across a variety of qualifying criteria.

The largest amount of qualifiers will come from the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Rankings with 23 teams per gender qualifying through that route.

In addition, four teams will qualify from each of the five continental confederations and two teams from hosts Austria will join them in qualifying automatically.

Finally, there will be three wild card places on offer per gender, two chosen by the FIVB and one from the host nation.

Each confederation will take care of its own qualification tournaments and the tentative lists of the 48 teams per gender will be made 60 days before the start of the World Championships. The confirmed entry will be published 35 days before the competition starts and the drawing of lots for pools and schedule will take place 30 days ahead of the first day of play.

The 2017 Beach Volleyball World Championships will feature a total of 208 matches for the prestigious title of world champions.  

At the heart of the event will be the state-of-the-art Centre Court, a spectacular stadium on Donau island in Vienna. This will be surrounded by a Beach Village offering public viewing and exhibitions for fans.
