It was the first FIVB World Tour meeting between the two teams.
Canada finished in 3rd place in Pool I with a 1-2 record and Rwanda finished 4th at 0-3. Also in Pool C, Brazil's Maria Antonelli/Carolina Salgado finished 1st at 3-0 and Kelly Claes/Sara Hughes of the United States finished 2nd at 2-1.
Canada will have to wait to see if it advances directly into the knockout phase or plays in a "lucky" loser match on Tuesday, 1 August to advance. Rwanda has been eliminated and finished 37th.
