Excited by the prospect of playing in front of their fans in Vienna, the pair were also at the press conference at the Spanish Riding School which launched the countdown to the Vienna 2017, FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships on Thursday.

"It was a great day for us! It really was an incredible experience! The horses were standing still for one whole hour. It was an incredible photo shooting. This is something you don’t experience every day," said Doppler.

Talking about what it would take to win a medal, Doppler said: "We need luck, a good day and the audience!"

The pair have fond memories of their participation in the beach volleyball tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where they took on gold medallists Alison Cerruti/Bruno Oscar Schmidt in the pool phase: "It was an enormously important match for us. Against the top team in the world, on their home court at the Olympic Games. And then we won! It probably was the best win in our career!"

Speaking about this year's event in their home country, Horst said: "For me, for all Austrians, especially for me as Viennese, it is a dream to have this event at home."

Austria's Stefanie Schwaiger underlined how Austrian fans are always behind their players. "It is simply unique! You are playing point after point and just want to win the game. The audience always has your back and that is extremely motivating."

Commenting via video, Olympic champion Laura Ludwig added: "I heard you Austrians are good at two things: skiing and organizing beach volleyball tournaments."
