Reigning world champions defeat Latvia 2-0

Alison Cerutti, Brazil - "It is very important that we've started with two wins because we're in a very tough pool. The Latvians made to the semifinals of the last tournament and they have an Olympic medalist on their team. We'll keep approaching one game at a time, that's our secret. Chile is also a very good team and they have a Brazilian coach, so we know pretty well how to play against each other".

Bruno Oscar Schmidt, Brazil - "We didn't play at our best level, but it was a very important match for us. They Latvians played really well and demanded a lot from us, what didn't happen in our first match. I prefer playing games like this because the tournament has already started and there is no more room for mistakes. Matches like this develop a sense of urgency on us and that's important as we progress in the tournament".

Martins Plavins, Latvia - "We played very badly on our first match in this tournament and we had nothing to lose today, so we tried to do our best and use this game to prepare to the next one. They made some mistakes, maybe because it was their first match on center court, we got some good blocks and defenses and, honestly, we had a chance to win both sets. But we understand who they are and they played like real champions in the end of both sets and won".

Haralds Regza, Latvia - "It was a very fun match and I'm sure the fans enjoyed it a lot. Alison and Bruno played really well today and I'm glad we got 19 points against them on both sets".
