It was the first FIVB World Tour meeting between the two teams. Ross won the 2009 World Championships in Stavanger, Norway with Jen Kessy while Chen Xue won the 2013 World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland with Xi Zhang.
In Pool K, the United States is 1-0 while China is 0-1. The other two teams in the pool are from Australia with Louise Bawden / Taliqua Clancy at 1-0 and Nicole Laird / Jessyka Ngauamo at 0-1.
