The Cubans qualified for the 2017 FIVB World Championships via the NORCECA continental process. While Echeverria will be playing in her first worlds, Martinez placed 33rd in the 2015 competition in The Netherlands with Lianma Flores. Echeverria and Martinez have played in three NORCECA tour stops with a 2015 second at a Cuban event and two gold medals at 2017 stops in Mexico and the Cayman Islands. Martinez and Flores were silver medal finishers at the Toronto 2015 PanAm Games.
