As a team that has collectively played in more than 260 FIVB World Tour events with a combined 15 gold medals (through June 24), 57 podium placements and 75 “final four” finishes, Antonelli and Carolina were awarded a “wild card” for the 2017 FIVB World Championships. The world championship appearance will be the fifth for both players as Antonelli has captured two bronze medals in the prestigious event with Talita Antunes (2009) and Juliana Felisberta (2015). Carolina’s best finish was a fifth in 2007 with her sister (Maria Clara). Playing together for the first-time on the FIVB World Tour in 2017, Antonelli and Salgado won a gold medal in their second event at The Hague to become only the second women’s team to capture an international title after qualifying for the Main Draw via a country quota playoff. Carolina, who captured back-to-back FIVB under-21 world championships with Taiana Lima (2004) and Camilla Saldanha (2005), has won FIVB World Tour gold medals with her sister while her mother (Isabel) and brother (Pedro) have topped international podiums.
